At RSS we are equipped to perform laparoscopy , a minimally invasive way to treat many gynaecological and other surgical conditions

Laparoscopy involves entering the abdominal cavity through very small incisions (cuts). These permit the use of small instruments and with the use of a camera, the surgeon is able to treat many gynaecological and general surgical conditions. Some common procedures done laparoscopically include hysterectomy, myomectomy, tubal sterilization, oophorectomy, tubal insufflation and cholecystectomy.

Because laparoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure, hospital stay is shortened and recovery is generally quicker than when surgery is done by other traditional methods.

Hysterectomy

Hysterectomy is the removal of the uterus (womb). This procedure is usually performed to treat benign( non cancerous) and malignant( cancerous) conditions of the uterus. The ovaries may or may not be removed depending on the special circumstances of the particular patient.

Hysterectomy may be performed by the traditional method which involves a relatively large incision(cut) into the abdomen or by less invasive methods. These include laparoscopy and removal through the vagina.

At RSS we are fully equipped to perform all these methods. Discuss your options with your doctor or call us for more information.

Myomectomy

Myomectomy is the removal of fibroids from the uterus. Fibroids are benign(non cancerous) growths of the uterus which may cause abnormal bleeding, pain, pressure symptoms , infertility and pregnancy loss. Unlike hysterectomy, Myomectomy allows a woman to keep her uterus(womb) for future child bearing.

Myomectomy may be performed by the traditional method which involves a relatively large incision (cut) into the abdomen or by less invasive methods like hysteroscopy or laparoscopy. Your doctor will advise you as to the best option for you

At RSS we are fully equipped to perform all these methods. Discuss your options with your doctor or call us for more information.

Tubal sterilization
This procedure which is performed when a woman has decided that she does not want any more pregnancies. It is a permanent (non reversible) form of contraception. A woman will continue to have normal menstrual cycles and sexual function is not affected.
Tubal sterilization may be performed through the traditional method involving an abdominal incision (cut) a few inches long or by laparoscopy in which incisions are much smaller.

If you have decided on this form of contraception discuss with your doctor

At RSS we are fully equipped to perform these methods. Discuss your options with your doctor or call us for more information.

Oophorectomy

Oophorectomy is the removal of the ovaries.

Although ovaries are most commonly removed when a woman has a hysterectomy it may be necessary to remove the ovaries alone . The ovaries produce hormones which may make treatment of hormone- dependent cancers difficult. Removing them may give a better chance of cure. Ovaries may also be removed for other reasons including cysts and other tumors.

Oophorectomy may be performed by the traditional method which involves a relatively large incision (cut) into the abdomen or by laparoscopy which involves minimal access. Your doctor will advise you as to the best option for you

At RSS we are fully equipped to perform these methods. Discuss your options with your doctor or call us for more information.

Tubal insufflation
Infertility or inability to become pregnant may be caused by blocked fallopian tubes . Part of the investigation of infertility includes assessment of the tubes for blockage . Laparoscopy affords proper evaluation of the tubes. A dye is infused into the uterus and tubes. With the aid of small incisions( cuts) into the abdomen and a camera the progress of the dye can be seen. This gives information about whether or not the tubes are blocked and the level of blockage. Direct visualization also allows the surgeon to see if there are other conditions in the pelvis which may be contributing to infertility. Depending on the findings these conditions may be treated at the same time.

Discuss with your doctor whether or not you should have a laparoscopy

At RSS we are fully equipped to perform tubal insufflation via laparoscopy .Discuss your options with your doctor or call us for more information.

Cholecystectomy

The gall bladder is an organ which is close to the liver and which collects and stores bile. Bile is poured out from the gallbladder into the gut to aid in normal digestion of fatty foods. Sometimes stones develop in the gallbladder or it becomes inflamed.

Cholecystectomy or removal of the gallbladder may become necessary in these cases.
Cholecystectomy may be performed by the traditional method which involves a relatively large incision (cut) into the abdomen or by laparoscopy which involves minimal access. Your doctor will advise you as to the best option for you

At RSS we are fully equipped to perform cholecystectomy by both methods.Discuss your options with your doctor or call us for more information.
